Studio III architects’ Hero Wednesday: Narendra Modi

Ok…I’ll make no pretense as to understanding the politics of India, but I was moved by Narendra Modi’s landslide election (814.7 million voted! Most of them for Modi presumably) and acceptance speech as covered and translated by NPR.  He is now the leader of 1.25 BILLION people, 1/6th of the world’s population!

At a quick glance Modi is the poster child of alllllll the greatest ideals of Democracy. But as one looks a little deeper, as one should always do when dealing with politicians, his political career is a bit controversial, kinda like all politicians, yet he is now the leader of one of the world’s largest economies….and the world’s biggest Democracy.  A lot of things to make one say “Hmmmmm…?” What do you think?  Hero or Villain?

Here is the NPR piece…sounds like a pretty amazing leader!

Here is another (video) article spelling out some of the more complicated circumstances surrounding Mr. Modi’s political life….and why we should care.

….and a harder look at Modi and India’s challenges.
