Studio III architects’ Hero Wednesday: NEW vs. OLD!

Controversy over NEW vs. OLD!

You love your old sneakers….so you save em and get new ones….or Huck the stinky old ones, or??

Ok how about your car, or phone?!  Old vs. New?

Maybe it’s more of a cultural question.  Sure some things we love new and others we love because they’re old.  From there it can be simplified to individual preference.  Let’s face it, some like to go antique collecting and others like to get rid of their junk…it all depends on where you stand.

So what about this example of a new home vs an old home?  And where does ones opinion cross the boundaries into others rights?

As Rodney King once said “can’t we all just try to get along?!”

Studio III architects’ Hero Wednesday: Narendra Modi

Ok…I’ll make no pretense as to understanding the politics of India, but I was moved by Narendra Modi’s landslide election (814.7 million voted! Most of them for Modi presumably) and acceptance speech as covered and translated by NPR.  He is now the leader of 1.25 BILLION people, 1/6th of the world’s population!

At a quick glance Modi is the poster child of alllllll the greatest ideals of Democracy. But as one looks a little deeper, as one should always do when dealing with politicians, his political career is a bit controversial, kinda like all politicians, yet he is now the leader of one of the world’s largest economies….and the world’s biggest Democracy.  A lot of things to make one say “Hmmmmm…?” What do you think?  Hero or Villain?

Here is the NPR piece…sounds like a pretty amazing leader!

Here is another (video) article spelling out some of the more complicated circumstances surrounding Mr. Modi’s political life….and why we should care.

Studio III architects’ Hero Wednesday: Farley Mowat

Farley Mowat was definitely one of this world’s greatest humanitarians, storytellers and philosophers…and he will be greatly missed. Mr. Mowat passed away yesterday but will live on as he espoused in his love of nature, the books he wrote and thoughts of those who read them. A true adventurer and lover of life. Below are two interviews…and if you get the chance he wrote scores great of books like “The Snow Walker” and “Never Cry Wolf”! (“The Farfarers” is one such book written about the first European visitors to North America who lived while hunting in the stone boat houses…had to get some Architecture in there ya know!)
